So often we allow our circumstances to dictate our lives, when we are easily the most blessed and least persecuted of all Christ followers throughout history. Although we are in this world but not of it, we are here for a reason. This is not just a dress rehearsal or some kind of waiting room until we get to heaven. God put us here as part of a grand plan. As evidenced by these verses in 1 Peter, none of us – not the prophets, the angels, nor us – can wrap our heads around it!
1 Peter 1:10-12
10 This salvation was something even the prophets wanted to know more about when they prophesied about this gracious salvation prepared for you. 11 They wondered what time or situation the Spirit of Christ within them was talking about when he told them in advance about Christ’s suffering and his great glory afterward.
12 They were told that their messages were not for themselves, but for you. And now this Good News has been announced to you by those who preached in the power of the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. It is all so wonderful that even the angels are eagerly watching these things happen.
What an amazing time it is that we get to live in. Did you know that the prophets in the Bible looked forward to the time that we get to live in? Do you realize that angels are watching us? Many of us think of the angels as amazing creatures, but they are in awe of us! To think that we are living in the times the prophets wrote about and that angels are watching to see what happens next is very exciting, if we choose to see it that way. When we keep the mindset that we are God’s children living under grace, we can see how good we have it and be grateful.
There are some really incredible things in this world that God put us in. Consider all that he has given us! Beautiful flowers and trees, birds and dogs and the ocean, rainbows and sunsets and love. Yes, there are terrible tragedies and a lot of ugliness too, but we know who wins in the end, hallelujah! If we choose to see the beauty here and remember that this is a temporary assignment that we should cherish as the amazing gift that it is, we can endure the hardships and trials that much easier. As Ben said, “When you know where you BELONG, you can LIVE CONFIDENTLY out of place.”
How could thinking about the good news that the prophets foretold thousands of years ago and knowing that angels are watching us help you gain some perspective?
Try making a gratitude journal. Write down 2-3 things every day that you are grateful for.
Today, we complete 1 Peter by going through 1 Peter 5.

Papa, thank you for your amazing plan, even when I cannot comprehend it. Thank you for showing me how much you love me each and every day. Help me to be grateful for the short time I have on this crazy planet, knowing that even the angels are waiting to see what happens next! Amen.
